Speech Therapy
MY EDUCATION
I am a native of West Columbia, SC, and I am a product of Lexington School District Two schools. I stayed local for college, graduating from Columbia College’s Honors Program in 1992 with a degree in Speech Correction. I finished my MSP (Master of Speech Pathology) degree in 1996 and my PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 2004, both from the University of South Carolina.
Fun Fact: At Columbia College, I minored in Music and in Spanish.
MY CAREER
I started my career in 1992 in Sumter, SC, as a speech therapist traveling between multiple locations, serving students ages 3-21.
After graduate school, I worked for about 9 years in a variety of medical settings (including a Level 1 Trauma Center) and in a couple of schools. When my own children became school aged, I missed being home with them, so I switched gears to work in the schools. I came to Lex2 in 2007 and I have been a National Board Certified Teacher since 2009.
Fun Fact: In 1992, at the first school I ever served, my “room” was a converted horse trailer in a field behind the school and that trailer was infested with yellow jackets!
MY FAMILY
I married my husband, Charlie, in 1995. He is an attorney who works for the SC Department of Social Services. We have three adult children, all of whom are former Fulmer Falcons!
I am an active member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church where I’ve been known to sing a few songs and ring a few handbells. In my “free” time, I enjoy Lady Gamecocks Basketball, photography, and crocheting .
Fun Fact: My husband and I were engaged after knowing each other only three weeks!
