Case File: The Missing Water!

Sixth Grade Science students became cell detectives as they worked together to solve their “Cell Mystery Case.” By analyzing organelle suspect profiles and examining clues, students used their knowledge of cell organelles and their functions to determine who stole the water from the vacuole!

Along the way, students practiced identifying important information, collaborating as a team, and putting their science knowledge to the test. Case closed!

Beginning August 31, Lexington Two will implement scheduled limits on student Chromebook functionality for middle school students. During designated evening and weekend hours, district-managed Chromebooks will have limited functionality and will not be available for routine student use. The change is intended to help establish clearer boundaries around school-related technology use outside the school day. The schedule will be:

Monday-Thursday: Chromebook functionality will be suspended from 10 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
Friday-Sunday: Chromebook functionality will be suspended from 8 p.m.-9 a.m.

Help us get to know Officer Smoak, one of the friendly faces helping keep our Fulmer Falcons safe each day!
When she’s not serving our school community, Officer Smoak enjoys watching true crime documentaries, hiking and camping, and baking with her sourdough starter, Yeastie Boy (the 2nd)! He helps her make delicious cookies and, sometimes, delicious loaves of bread.

She is also a proud dog mom to five pups: two grumpy little poodles, one giant goofy poodle, a smart little mutt who looks like a fox, and a goofy golden retriever!

Officer Smoak and her husband have been married for 17 years and have three children, ages 20, 16, and 13. Her husband is active in the South Carolina Army National Guard. As a family, they enjoy hiking and camping, often taking overnight hikes along the Foothills Trail near Clemson. Their goal is to one day section hike parts of the Appalachian Trail—though convincing the kids to join when cell service is limited can sometimes be a challenge!
Officer Smoak brings plenty of experience to her role, with 18 years as a police officer. Before that, she served as a Military Police Officer in the active-duty Army and South Carolina National Guard for a total of 12 years.
We are thankful to have Officer Smoak as part of our Fulmer family!

Lex2 families of middle and high school students are invited to an open house at the Innovation Center from 5-6:30 p.m. September 1. The first hour will be spent visiting classrooms and talking with instructors, with the final 30 minutes an overview of career pathways and programs with Director Schiria Wilson. Fulmer is once again participating in the Read with the Gamecocks annual reading challenge! For our school, the challenge begins Tuesday, September 1st and runs through Monday, September 14th.

The due date to submit the signed reading log is no later than Friday, September 19th.

Information in the image is related to the Read with the Gamecocks reading challenge that Fulmer is once again participating in. The reading challenge begins on September 1st and runs through September 14th and it is to read for 30 minutes each day for 14 consecutive days. Students are to pick up a reading log from their ELA teacher or Mrs. Caughman. They need to get signed and turn in the reading log to Mrs. Caughman no later than Friday, September 19th.

Lexington Two uses the I Love U Guys Standard Response Protocols for security and medical events. :Families received an email from the district in early August explaining these protocols. However, you don't need much time to get the overview -- watch this video of students titled: "5 Minutes, 5 Actions: The Standard Response Protocol (SRP)" in English language and Spanish language.

Fulmer Middle School is incredibly proud to celebrate 7th grader Gabrielle Chavis for her outstanding academic achievement! Who doesn't love a decorated classroom door? During the first week of school, Ms. Branton invited her students to share about themselves on colorful Disco Ball papers, creating a fun display that celebrates each student's unique interests and personality. This is just one way that one of our teachers carried out a "getting to know you" interest survey.

Taking time to get to know our students helps us build meaningful relationships and better support them throughout the school year—not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. When students feel known, valued, and connected, they are better prepared to learn and grow!

The Falcon Choir (7th grade students shown in photos) is building strong musical foundations through Solfège hand signs, rhythm counting, and vocal warm-ups! Solfège uses syllables like Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, and Ti to help singers recognize pitch, understand how notes relate to one another, and strengthen their musical skills. By pairing each syllable with a hand sign, students are engaging both their voices and bodies as they develop confidence, accuracy, and musical literacy!

Ms. Branton's class also got to participate in "Dolphin Training" in her classes the other day. Her students discussed the importance of providing feedback to the "Dolphin" so they could learn faster. They could only provide feedback if the "Dolphin" participated in the game! Similar to how important it is to try in math so that Ms. Branton can provide feedback to work towards mastery! We love when fun games connect to math class!

Mark your calendars! Lexington Two's annual Transition Fair is set for September 15. Agencies from across the state will be in attendance to provide information for parents of students with exceptional needs. The event is 5:30-7 p.m. at our district office. Pizza will be provided.

Lexington School District Two students posted gains in several core subject areas in statewide SC READY testing results released this week by the SC Department of Education, achieving test scores at the highest level in more than five years. Lexington Two elementary and middle school test takers’ gains outpaced those of statewide test takers in several areas: fourth- and fifth-graders outpaced statewide test takers in English/Language Arts; fourth-, fifth-, sixth- and eighth-graders outpaced statewide testers in math; and all test takers outpaced statewide in science. In addition, among tested Lexington Two students, 24 achieved maximum scores in the most recent testing, the largest number in recent years. Read more about the results by clicking this link.
