7th Grade ELA
My name is Alexis Deese-Smith and I teach 7th grade ELA. I hold a Masters degree in Teaching as well as a Bachelors degree in English from the University of South Carolina (Go Cocks!). During my time at USC, I was honored to be a part of the Teaching Fellows program for four years and to serve as a Peer Leader for incoming freshmen. I also participated in USC's Study Abroad program, which allowed me to live and study in Canterbury, England for 3 months. (I miss it so much--especially my friends and real scones.)
This past summer, I married my high school sweetheart and got to add "Smith" to my last name. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy baking brownies, hardcore car karaoke, writing stories, re-reading my favorite books, and making excuses to run "errands" at Target.
This is my first year at Fulmer, and I love being a part of the falcon family. I've dreamed of being a teacher since kindergarten, and I consider it a privilege to teach your child. I want our "nest" to be a place of curiosity, critical thinking, and conversation. If you ever have any questions about what your student is learning, areas for growth that might require some extra help, or available resources, please do not hesitate to contact me. If you would ever like to meet in person, my planning time is as follows:
Wednesday/Friday: 10:45-11:30; 12:15-1:00
To maximize your student's growth in reading and writing skills, please encourage them to read for at least 30 minutes a day outside of school. The best way to become better in ELA is to read. Our school librarian would love to assist with finding the right book, and I've worked hard to build my classroom library to accommodate all reading interests. I love helping students find joy in reading!
