ELA 2017-2018

Course Description

Welcome to Language Arts. In ELA you should prepare for a  curriculum that encompasses reading and writing exercises, and active participation. In this course,  we will dive into four major components: vocabulary, writing, grammar and literature (nonfiction, fiction, drama and poetry). We will examine point-of-view, complex character development, imagery and tone. We will learn how to recognize and analyze themes, and compare and contrast universal ideas, and symbolism. We will also analyze elements of style, including word choice, tone, and sentence structure, sensory and figurative language. Additionally, we will experiment with different styles of writing including argumentative, explanatory and narrative writing, and learn how to construct sentences with meaning. We will spend much time learning proper grammar and expanding our vocabulary by studying Greek and Latin roots. I will work very diligently to help your child grow during the time they spend with me learning new reading and writing techniques.

Please check Google classroom frequently, as I will be updating it on a regular basis. This is the first place you should check for notes, daily assignments and homework in the event you are absent.   The class is linked below; however, if you want an invite to join, please e-mail me.  I will send you an invite; this will allow you to be subscribed to your student's class.
